Anytime, Anywhere

Steve Turner Los Angeles, October 14 - November 10

In the exhibition, Anytime, Anywhere, Michael Staniak presents three visually unique yet conceptually linked series of works, featuring his signature casting compound paintings with newly added digital-printed elements, epoxy relief works and bronze sculptures.

Staniak’s practice explores the effects that new digital technologies have on our visual culture. This exhibition specifically focuses on how these technologies may shape our understanding of our natural and built environments. His works utilize new ways in which we record images of our land and objects and the exhibition also references the physical footprint our digital technologies leave on the landscape. Subjects such as satellite imaging, 3D scanning, rare-earth metal mining, geographical borders, social media echo chambers and the distortion of history, are influential in the research leading to the creation of the works for Anytime, Anywhere. The resulting display reminisces a room in a Natural History Museum from a future time; where these technologies have been used to document and recreate an alternate history to the one in which we currently inhabit, made malleable by the very technologies on which we have become more dependent.
